I am posting quotes up as per my blog assignment #4 that really resonated with me and that I feel really explain what working in Early Childhood is about and having a passion and empowering ourselves and others in the field to continue to do this work.
Marilyn Friend was one of the people that I chose to write my discussion about and in one of her articles she says, "Teaching is a complex profession, and every teacher has days when the demands of the classroom are overwhelming. It is teachers' beliefs about their ability to find a way to help every student learn and a conviction that they can make a difference in each student's life that gets them through the difficult times and causes them to keep looking for new answers and options" (Friend & Pope, 2005).
Friend, M. & Pope, K. (2005). Creating schools in which all children can succeed. Kappa Delta Pi Record, 41(2), 56-61.
In watching the video from week 2, The Passion For Early Childhood, there were two quotes that I would like to share that really brought meaning to me in regards to what we do in Early Childhood and the work that still needs to be done.
Raymond Hernandez MS ED
"My passion comes from wanting to make a difference...I'm not here to save the world, I'm here to make a difference in the community."
Renatta M. Cooper
"What keeps me engaged is that we're not there yet. We've got a long way to go."
These two statements are very simple but also very powerful and I think it's more of the simple things that really help us to get out points across and make things happen for the better and also encourage us to keep up the fight to make a difference and see our passions come ti life.
I too like Raymond Hernandez' comment. One individual cannot save the world but we as teachers can make a difference one child at a time!
