Examining Codes of Ethics

To create and maintain safe and healthy settings that foster children's social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development and that respect their dignity and their contributions. (NAEYC, 1996)

We shall demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in all
our professional activities in order to inspire the trust and confidence of the children and families
and of those with whom we work. (DEC, 2009)

We shall support professionals new to the field by mentoring them in the practice of evidence and
ethically based services. (DEC, 2009)

The three ideals stated above are meaningful to me because they exemplify the importance as a professional of meeting the needs of the whole child as well as the importance of demonstrating both a level professional and personal integrity working in the field of early childhood education. I also think that providing a positive example to other professionals in the field is also important because as leaders in the field it is our duty to share our knowledge base with others.

  1. This is so true. If we are missing one piece of a puzzle, the puzzle will never get put together. It is the same here. We need to follow all the codes because as you said we have to meet the needs of the whole child.
Hope to see you in another class.

  2. I agree that as professionals we need to help one another succeed. In some child care centers, teachers act like their classroom is the only and some don't like to share ideas or even supplies. We are all here to educate children! I think we sometimes forget that and become a little petty!
