We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
- George Bernard Shaw

I think the main person that I think of who supported me in play was my dad. He always took us places and we would often go skating together and because he loved hockey he taught us how to play. For me it wasn't about the act of skating or the act of competition in a game it was about learning how important it is to invest in spending quality time with the people you care about.
I think that we recognize the importance of play a lot more now than when I was a child. I say this only because I think that play was something that adults just aimlessly told us that it was good for us to do without actually knowing why it was so important to our growth and development. I think now, parents are becoming a lot more educated about all of the implications for play.
I think that play is still a huge part of my life. I find that it's easier for me to engage with people and it helps me to learn about people because it helps me learn not just what they like to do but how they like to engage with others and in what activities, how they problem solve, it helps me learn about the temperament of the person and many other things. There is a lot to be said about play especially in terms of all that it offers us.
