This week I took the opportunity to look at the NAEYC website and I have been especially interested in looking at and discovering resources that are available in our communities. Through the website I can across a link that provided information on the Build Initiative (http://www.buildinitiative.org/). This program is all about creating "comprehensive early childhood systems." This includes being a part of developing policies that support the proper use of commmunity resources, having the ability to respond to the needs of families, and also preparing young children for the future.
I think this is one program that specifically supports the efforts of politicians especially as they develop policies that will hopefully support the development of early childhood programs and initiatives in our local and state governments by their involvement and their research that they complete in the field of early childhood education. As they work to guide policy makers toward the right direction in the field of early childhood education, I think it is important for us to recognize that initiatives such as these create opportunities in our field for children to gain access that they may not have otherwise had to high quality programs as they become more prevalent in our communities.
One of the major things that looking at this initiative has made me realize is that every one of us have the opportunity to be a part of these initiatives and to make a difference and create a positive impact that will support early childhood programs in having a larger voice so that policymakers can realize what huge impact these programs have on young children, families, and the future success of the larger systems that they are a part of.
